SYNOPSIS

Captain's Day at the Seven Lakes Golf Club gets off to a bad start when the men's Captain is indisposed.

Club secretary, Simon, relishes the chance to take over but is soon thwarted by the arrival of Vice Captain, Nick and his girlfriend, Tiffany.

Lady Captain, Fran, and enthusiastic but hopeless Barry add to the confusion as a series of disasters mount. With the unexpected arrival of Simon's wife, Laura, tensions build and things go from bad to worse.

Set on the club house patio, the characters soon discover that personal relationships OFF the course are more dangerous than the hazards ON the course!

Love or loathe golf, it will never seem quite the same again!

CHAIR’S PRODUCTION NOTES

Welcome to our latest play offering, Par For The Course by York based playwright Peter Gordon.

It is a big year for The Monday Players - in addition to this being our 25th year, Par For The Course also happens to be our 50th production!  After racking our brains to come up with a way to commemorate this milestone, and sharing this celebratory moment with our wonderful audiences, we found the answer … free choc ices for all (make the most of this freebie, back to full price next production)!

The Monday Players are delighted that Jan Kirk is our director this time around, her first with The Monday Players. Jan is both an experienced and seasoned director and actor, and having worked with many different drama groups in York and elsewhere, we knew she would be more than qualified for the task ahead. It was Jan’s suggestion that PFTC would be a suitable play both for the group and for our audiences. We included it in one of our play read evenings - it was deemed an instant hit!

Little did we know that Jan actually knew the playwright Peter Gordon; little did we know that there was a strong possibility he would be coming along to watch one of our performances. No pressure! Peter, if you are reading this, we really hope you enjoy your play! Jan, thank you for your vision and patience – we hope you are very happy with the end result.

Putting on a production involves very many people. Our success is down to the effort, support, experience, commitment and most importantly friendship within the group. The rehearsals have been a wonderfully relaxed experience filled with goodwill and humour…and a few homemade cakes too!

On a sadder note, Jack Harrison, one of our members, recently and suddenly passed away. Jack and his wife Pat were loyal audience members for many years. He also became our accounts auditor, a role he carried out thoroughly and willingly; he enjoyed his involvement so much that in recent years he became a fully-fledged member of The Monday Players, extending his duties to front of house. Jack was a very keen golfer, so we would like to dedicate this production to Jack and hope he enjoyed just as many antics on the putting green. Sending our love and best wishes to Pat and her family.

And finally, thank you to our audience and sponsors for your continued support and patronage. It is, as always, greatly appreciated. I hope you enjoy our play!
